Visit from Dr. Stuart McGill
Today (January 27th, 2012), I received a nice 90 minute visit from Dr. Stuart McGill.
Professor Stuart McGill is a well-known, international lecturer and author with over 200 scientific publications that address the issues of lumbar function, low back injury mechanisms, investigation of tissue loading during rehabilitation programs and the formulation of work-related injury avoidance strategies. He is a consultant to many medical management groups, professional sports teams and athletes, governments, corporations and legal firms. Dr. McGill has won numerous awards including the prestigious Volvo Bioengineering Award for Low Back Pain research from Sweden. At the University of Waterloo, he is the department chair. He also holds other academic appointments, which include the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Waterloo, the Institute of Medical Science, University of Toronto, and the Southern California University of Health Sciences. He is one of few scientists who is regularly referred challenging patients for consult. Professor McGill currently serves on the editorial board for the journals Clinical Biomechanics and Spine. He is author to: Low Back Disorders: Evidence Based Prevention and Rehabilitation, and Ultimate Back Fitness and Performance.
Stuart didn’t realize we both lived in Waterloo, Ontario and he wanted to come meet and exchange books. After giving me some tips on training my plank chin-ups I realized Stuart is a great potential character for Volume III of Muscle, Smoke & Mirrors.
